Bipolaris

Brown Patch
Brown patch is a fungal disease caused by Rhizoctonia solani. It causes brown discoloured circular patches that range from a few centimetres up to a metre in diameter, sometimes with a smoke ring of mycelium around the edges. -
Curvularia Leaf Spot
Curvularia leaf spot is usually a secondary disease after primary pathogens, such as Spring Dead Spot and Helminthosporium, have infected turfgrass. When infected with Curvularia leaf spot, individual leaves initially show yellow and green dapple patterns that extend downwards from the leaf tip. -
Dollar Spot
Dollar Spot disease is caused by a fungus that overwinters as sclerotia. Turf that is infected with dollar spot will commonly show small, sunken, circular patches about 1.5cm to 5cm in diameter. -
Downy Mildew
Downy mildew is a fungal disease that affects many plants and appears as yellow to white patches on the upper surfaces of older leaves. On the undersides, these areas are covered with white to grayish, cotton-like fungi. These “downy” masses are most often noticed after rain or heavy dew and disappear soon after sunny weather resumes. -

Drechslera is turf disease growing under stressful conditions, particularly in poorly draining profiles and areas with shade issues. Early symptoms of drechslera may include the appearance of small, water-soaked lesions on infected foliage. -

Fusarium patch is a type of fungal disease in turf caused by Microdochium nivale. Fusarium patch appears as circular, water-soaked spots, usually 5cm in diameter. -
Grey Leaf Spot
Grey leaf spot is a turfgrass disease that often first appears as as tiny, brown leaf and stem lesions, which enlarge rapidly into round to oblong spots. However, symptoms of Grey Leaf Spot will vary depending on the grass cultivar. Grey Leaf Spot disease is often more severe in newly established planting with high nitrogen levels. -

Helminthosporium Disease is a complex of turfgrass diseases previously known as Helminthosporium leaf, crown and root disease. -
Kikuyu Yellows
Kikuyu Yellows is a water mould that infects roots and causes them to rot. Kikuyu Yellows kills out areas of turf which allows weeds to invade the infected areas. As part of managing Kkuyu Yellows, it is recommended to resow affected areas with suitable tolerant Kikuyu varieties such as Noonan. -

Rust
Rust is a fungal turfgrass disease that affects grasses growing under stressful environmental conditions. Early symptoms of Rust diseases appear as light-yellow flecks on leaves or stems which enlarge, elongdate and turn yellow in colour. In more severe cases of rust, the infected areas rise above the epidermis and then rupture, releasing spores that are yellowish-orange to reddish-brown in colour, giving the disease its name. -
Slime Mould
Slime mould initially appears as patches of slimey, wet, jelly-like substances that covers the surface of turf and lawns. Over a few days, the slimey substance produces fruiting bodies that may appear powdery ash-grey, red or yellow in colour. -
Spring Dead Spot
Spring Dead Spot is typically a disease of mature turfs that are intensively managed. Spring dead spot causes Circular patches of bleached, straw coloured dead grass appear in spring as the dormant grass regrows. Patches are also visible in autumn and winter after a series of unusually cool days or wet, cold weather. -
Take All Patch
Take-All Patch is a turf disease that affects the roots of grass. It initially appears as small, light brown dead patches on turf and once established, can continue to spread throughout the year. Grass that is stressed by take-all patch appears bronze to reddish brown and then fades to a dull brown.
