What is White Clover?
White Clover is a perennial low-growing leguminous dicot with an aggressive creeping growth habit. The characteristic green, trifoliate compound leaves are well known an make this weed easily identifiable although white clover can be mistaken for other weeds with a similar leaf arrangement. Leaf margins are subtly jagged with a curved white crescent encircling the base of each leaflet to form a central white ring. White Clover is an extremely common weed of turf around the country and as it is a legume is often found in nitrogen deficient soil where it easily out competes the desired turf species and can grow rapidly in a short period of time. The white, crate paper like flowers observed in spring and autumn often attract bees.
