Ronstar® is a selective, granular, pre-emergent herbicide that delivers reliable weed control without root pruning. It is designed for use in woody ornamental shrubs and trees in nurseries, while also being suitable for use across a wide range of turf species.
Unlike many herbicides, Ronstar is not taken up by plant roots and does not affect root systems, allowing for faster plant establishment and healthy growth. Its residual, pre-emergent activity helps reduce reliance on repeated post-emergent herbicide applications, providing a flexible and economical approach to long-term weed management.
Key features of Ronstar Turf and Ornamental Herbicide
- Is not taken up by roots - does not affect root systems (no root-pruning) and is not translocated through the plant
- High level of selectivity - allowing use in a wide range of ornamental species
- Kills weeds prior to emergence from soil
- Controls germinating weeds for up to 10 weeks giving season long weed control
- Does not degrade after exposure to long periods to sunlight, therefore weed control is maintained for a long period
- Oxadiazon becomes strongly bound to soil humic and clay particles and therefore does not leach from the soil under heavy irrigation or rainfall
- Retains activity over a range of soil types, organic matter and pH
- Degraded in soil via microbial pathways - research shows no evidence of build up of oxadiazon in soil after several annual applications
How Ronstar® Works
Ronstar works by targeting germinating weeds at the soil surface, preventing emergence before weeds compete with desirable plants. Once applied, oxadiazon binds tightly to soil particles, forming a stable barrier that remains effective even under irrigation or rainfall.
Because Ronstar is not absorbed by roots and is not translocated within plants, it delivers weed control without impacting plant growth or development, making it ideal for both ornamental production and turf management.
Weeds Controlled
Ronstar controls a range of germinating weeds prior to emergence, providing long-lasting suppression and reducing the need for follow-up post-emergent treatments.
Application and Best Practice Guidelines
Ronstar should be applied using a properly calibrated granular applicator to ensure uniform distribution and consistent weed control. Applicators should be calibrated according to the manufacturer’s instructions and checked regularly to maintain accuracy.
Apply Ronstar to the soil surface of newly potted or freshly weeded containers and beds. Overhead irrigation after application will help distribute the granules evenly and improve weed control activity. Ronstar should not be applied to wet foliage.
Repeat applications may be made at 10-week intervals. For best results, apply prior to weed germination, typically from late summer to mid-autumn (February to May) and early spring (August to October). Avoid excessive watering that may move granules across the soil surface, and remove any granules from plant material by blowing or light irrigation.
