Spearhead® is an industry-leading selective turf herbicide delivering outstanding control of a wide range of broadleaf weeds in managed turf. Its unique three-way mode of action provides extended weed control while maintaining excellent turf safety across both cool- and warm-season grasses.
With no odour and a strong environmental and user safety profile, Spearhead is widely recognised as the product of choice for public spaces, parks, and high-visibility turf areas where performance, safety, and reliability are essential.
Key features of Spearhead Herbicide
- Outstanding broadleaf weed control
- Excellent turf safety (cool and warm season grasses)
- Very low application rates of active ingredient
- Non-ester formulation (no volatilisation issues, reducing potential for off-target damage)
- Product of choice for public spaces
- Additional surfactants not required for most weeds
- No odour
How Spearhead® Herbicide Works
Spearhead utilises a three-way herbicide action to control broadleaf weeds through multiple pathways, improving reliability and extending the duration of control. This multi-mechanism approach allows Spearhead to manage both existing weeds and later germinations when applied earlier in the season.
Best results are achieved when weeds are actively growing, allowing the herbicide to move effectively within the plant and deliver thorough control.
Application Rates and Use Guidelines
Spearhead is applied at a rate of 5 L/ha using 200–500 L of water per hectare. Application should be made using properly calibrated spray equipment to ensure even coverage of target weeds.
Avoid overlapping spray passes, as this may result in exceeding the recommended application rate.
Best Practice Guidelines
Shake the container well before use. Due to its residual weed control activity, Spearhead is best applied earlier in the season to provide control of both existing weeds and later germinations.
For optimal performance, apply when weeds are actively growing. Be aware that some buffalo grass varieties, such as ST85, may show transient discolouration. It is recommended to treat a small test area before undertaking large-scale applications.
Where to Use Spearhead® Herbicide
Spearhead is registered for use on turf surfaces, including both cool- and warm-season grasses.
It is not recommended for use on bentgrass or winter grass golf or bowling greens.
Ideal use areas include public spaces, parks, recreational turf, and other managed turf environments where turf safety and low odour are critical.
Please note that the registration of products to the Envu legal entity is currently in progress. In the meantime, Envu products will progressively transfer from Bayer to the Envu brand. You may observe product with packaging that belong to either Envu or Bayer during this transition.
