What is Parramatta Grass?

Parramatta Grass is a clumping perennial grassy weed with tough, fibrous leaves up to 35cm in length. The tussocky growth habit with dense central crown makes Parramatta Grass difficult to mow making it stand out dramatically on turf surfaces. Parramatta Grass is an extremely aggressive weed and will often out-compete desirable host turf varieties for nutrients and soil moisture. Seed heads appear on tall stems with a thick coating of tiny black seeds on the upper third of the stem, generally emerging throughout the year though predominantly in the summer months. Parramatta Grass is propagated through seed spread on the wind and in run-off.
