Higran® is a preventative and early curative miticide designed for the control of nymph and adult Couchgrass Mite in turf. It is positioned as the second application in a two-step mite management strategy, rotated with alternate chemistry from a different mode of action group to support effective resistance management.
Higran is a pro-insecticide, meaning the active ingredient converts to its biologically active form after application. This delivers immediate insecticidal activity through paralysis, with visible control typically achieved 5–7 days after application.
Key benefits of Higran Turf Miticide
- An entirely different mode of action (MOA) to manage and/or prevent resistance build up
- Strong contact, translaminar and vapour activity meaning pests on the underside of leaves not directly contacted are still treated equally well
- High degree of selectivity to target pest – causes rapid paralysis and feeding cessation
- Longer duration of residual control compared to traditional chemistries registered for couch mite control
- One part of a two-step strategy to better manage Couchgrass Mite in turf
How Higran® Works
Higran functions as a pro-insecticide, meaning its active ingredient undergoes a conversion process after application to become biologically active. Once activated, insecticidal activity occurs immediately, resulting in rapid paralysis of couch grass mites. Full control is generally observed within 5–7 days following application.
Its combination of contact, translaminar, and vapour activity allows the product to move effectively through leaf tissue and air spaces, ensuring thorough exposure of target pests across the turf canopy.
Application Timing and Program Strategy
Higran can be used preventatively or early curatively when targeting nymph and adult couch grass mites. For best results, it should be applied as the second treatment in a two-step rotational program, following an initial knockdown application with a miticide from a different mode of action group.
For example, when environmental conditions become conducive to mite activity and early symptoms such as witches broom are observed in a couch grass sward, apply Gymnast® Turf Miticide at 2 L/ha as the first application to rapidly reduce the mite population. Follow this with Higran at 500 mL/ha, applied 10–14 days later, to provide residual control for up to four weeks.
This combined approach forms a six-week management program and can be repeated if environmental conditions and pest pressure remain high. Strict adherence to rotation principles is essential for responsible chemical use and long-term resistance management.
Always consult the product label for full application instructions.
Where to Use Higran® Turf Miticide
Higran is designed for use on couch grass turf surfaces where Couchgrass Mite pressure is present or anticipated, including:
-
Golf course fairways and couch turf areas
-
Sports fields and athletic turf
-
Turf farms and production areas
-
Parks and recreational couch turf
